The drying technology of clay dryer

Clay is categorized into six groups: kaolin (china clay), ball clay, fire clay, bentonite, fuller’s earth, common clay and shale. Clay has a variety of industrial applications: refractories, fiberglass, rubber, paint, ceramics, chemicals, paper coating and filling, cement.

Wet clay contains moisture content 20-40%. Before we use it for different purposes, direct contact rotary dryer is built to reduce water to certain degree.

Clay dryer removes water by evaporation. The drying process is described as this: wet clay is fed into rotary dryer at co-current with hot gases. As the cylinder rotates, clay is lifted and distributed by the flights. Hot gases pass by and through clay at reasonable rate. High efficient heat transfer is completed during this stage. Inside clay dryer, the temperature is about 400-600°C. Water absorbs heat rapidly and gets vaporized. Vapor is blown out together with exhaust gas.

Drying process is influenced by many factors: moisture, temperature, feeding rate, flights, rotation speed, diameter-length ratio, airflow speed, etc. Dongding is an experienced rotary dryer manufacturer in China. We have installed many satisfied production lines for clients. For more professional drying solution, please contact us.
